How to Use the VA Tax Rebate Eligibility Tool
Step 1: Select Your Filing Status
- Use the dropdown menu to choose how you file your taxes:
- Single – if you file as an individual.
- Married Filing Jointly – if you and your spouse file one return together.
- Head of Household – if you qualify as head of household (for example, you support dependents).
Step 2: Enter Your Annual Income
- Type your total annual income in the income box.
- Be sure to enter only numbers (no commas or symbols).
- Example: if you earn $75,000, just type 75000.
Step 3: Confirm Your Residency
- Use the dropdown to answer whether you are a Virginia resident.
- Only residents of Virginia can qualify for the rebate.
Step 4: Click “Check Eligibility”
- Press the blue button to see your result.
Step 5: Review Your Result
- If you qualify, you’ll see a green check mark with the message:
“You may qualify for the VA Tax Rebate!” - If you do not qualify, you’ll see a red X with one of these messages:
- “You are not eligible for the VA Tax Rebate.” (if you are not a Virginia resident)
- “Your income is too high to qualify.” (if your income is above the limits)
Income Limits Used in the Tool
The tool uses the following thresholds when checking eligibility:
- Single: Income must be $100,000 or less
- Married Filing Jointly: Income must be $200,000 or less
- Head of Household: Income must be $150,000 or less
